St. James Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center (Q2 2024)
Mr. F is a 76-year-old male admitted to St. Charles Hospital because he fell 25 ft off a ladder trying to cut a tree branch and fell backward. The resident was diagnosed with a pelvis fracture and a Thoracic spine compression fracture. Mr. F underwent spine posterior instrumentation surgery plus fusion with Thoracic laminectomy.
He was referred to a skilled nursing facility due to a decrease in functional mobility, pain, reduced balance, and reduced activity of daily living. When asked by the social worker from St. Charles, Mr. F said St. James was his choice since his close friend, recently a patient, enjoyed his time in the community as he got stronger.
On April 8th, Mr. F was admitted to St. James. When he arrived, staff greeted him, and he was eager to begin strengthening his body. After identifying goals and a plan of action to regain his strength and stamina, Mr. F and his therapists got together and started working.
In the 26 days that Mr. F was at the community. He participated in rehab, drastically improving his balance and walking distance. Mr. F could only balance/stand for under 30 seconds, then stand for 5 minutes or more. When he first came, he could only walk 10 feet, then over 300 feet. Since he was doing very well with therapy, he was ready to go home.
Mr. F is so thankful to his friend for recommending St. James. He was also so grateful to his wonderful team for making him as strong as he was at home. I can’t thank anyone enough for all our hard work together to get me back to my everyday life.” We wish Mr. F our best as he continues his journey towards better health.
