Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center (January 2017)

progress

Alba was admitted from Stony Brook University Hospital on January 17th 2017, for rehab on her right side resulting from a fall. In the beginning, Alba was having difficulty adjusting to the community at St. James. She felt as though she was too young and had no common ground with people. The next day our social work office decided to transfer Alba to a new room with a very outgoing and social roommate. Both patients have become very close friends as show by Alba’s brilliant smile. Alba has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and stated, “ No one gave me the time of day in the hospital for physical therapy or occupational therapy. St. James believes in me and works hard to achieve goals with me. I am learning how to control my body thanks to St. James believing in me.” Alba then shared, “ St. James rehab is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

Once Alba was admitted to St. James she was promptly greeted by our staff. Once arriving, Alba has created a strong relationship and rapport with many team members within various departments. Alba has greatly also used the concierge services department as well to assist her through obstacles both inside and outside of the community. Alba expressed her gratitude towards all of the staff members that have worked so hard to make her stay as excellent as it is. Additionally Alba has been delighted to have received integrative therapy from Urban Zen. As per Alba, “ Urban Zen is my saving grace. It is what saved me when I came here. I know that inner healing is just as important as outer healing”.

Alba has made tremendous progress while residing at St. James. She has began to experience greater mobility as exemplified through his increased ability to walk. Alba’s goals of being discharged with a good long term healthy life are nearby. Alba can see the light at the end of the tunnel and a big thank you to all of the staff member’s here at St. James for their help and patients with her throughout her stay.
